UJCC is an ecumenical organization consisting of the Church of Uganda, the Roman Catholic Church and the Uganda Orthodox Church. UJCC was founded in 1963 by Archbishop Leslie Brown of the Anglican Church of Uganda, Archbishop Joseph Kiwanuka of the Roman Catholic Church and Bishop Theodorus Nankyama of the Uganda Orthodox Church against a background of rivalry and conflicts between and among faith communities, a state of affairs that was inimical to the Christian spirit of love. The three religious leaders recognized the need to foster unity among Christians belonging to their respective denominations so that they can witness together and live in harmony.
